Friday Harbor holds the ferry terminal, marina, The Whale Museum, tour departures, and the island's largest concentration of restaurants and lodging. A car reaches Roche Harbor, Lime Kiln Point, English Camp, American Camp, and Cattle Point.
Downtown Friday Harbor is compact and walkable. Lime Kiln Point, Roche Harbor, American Camp, and Cattle Point are spread across the island and require a car, bicycle, shuttle, or tour.
Spring Street begins at the terminal, with the marina, cafés, galleries, and The Whale Museum close by.
Orcas draw the headlines, but tours may also encounter humpbacks, minkes, porpoises, seals, sea lions, and bald eagles.
The west-side state park pairs a historic lighthouse with rocky shoreline, kelp water, and one of the island's best-known viewpoints.

From Spring Street to the island's rocky west shore
Fishing boats and tour vessels share the harbor below town. A few blocks uphill, shops and restaurants line Spring Street. Outside Friday Harbor, roads pass lavender fields, old orchards, coastal prairie, driftwood beaches, and evergreen coves before reaching Roche Harbor or the exposed shoreline at Cattle Point.

The marina settles toward evening as tour boats return and ferries cross the channel. Waterfront tables fill first, but downtown also has cafés, taverns, bakeries, and quieter dining rooms a few blocks above the terminal.
